Knit-A-Long's
Miko's Challenge 2010
Miko has decided, "a-la-Julie-and-Julia" style, that it would be fun to put out a personal challenge to knit up a book of patterns in a year! That's right... pick a book/ magazine/ publication... of your choice... and commit to stitching up every item in it. Imagine the possibilities? You might choose an actual book, a magazine, an issue of Knitty, what ever you want! It might be technique specific, designer specific, all hot bottle cozies for all it matters
...the point is-- you challenge yourself and work away at it all year!
And of course we will have a big party/trunk show to show off the knitterly goodness and reminisce about the trials and triumphs of the journey along the way. We will need to keep close tabs on the instigator of this challenge, so each newsletter will have a Miko's Challenge update... already there are some takers and people choosing their publications! Look for a discussion to start on Ravelry in The Purple Purl Group for us all to see the happenings, post triumphs and tragedies, and for more information as we go!
In the Ravelry Purple Purl Group forum you need to reveal your book by January 31st, 2010 and all projects must be completed by midnight January 31st, 2011. Of course if you are a late joiner...than you simply have less time to complete for our challenge...but it will be fun none-the-less!

40 patterns |
only 21 patterns (but lots of lace) (only?!?!?) |
For those of you on Ravelry just click on the images of the books above to can see all the patterns to be stitched up.
Part of the fun of this challenge so far has been the selection of the book. We definitely wanted it to be a personal challenge and so we are going to work up A LOT OF PROJECTS in just 365 days, but also our selections will ensure we explore and get more practice on a large number of techniques and skills. And the yarn choices.... you would think it would be easy to choose with an entire yarn shop at your disposal... it, quite simply, is not.
There has a been a suggestion to tag all your items in Ravelry with miko-challenge so we can all peek at how things are progressing NOTE the spelling so we are all on the same page/tag! Good idea Rebecca!
