Knit Socks 101 - Top Down

If you’ve not made socks before, this is the class for you.

In this 2 hour class learn how to make top-down socks on double-pointed needles. Learn the finer points of sock anatomy by creating a mini “training sock!” We teach you everything you need to know to knit socks - from appropriate cast-ons to turning the heel to shaping the toe.  We share lots of tips and techniques, including a discussion on good sock yarns and avoiding those holes that can occur with the gusset pickup. 

Once you’ve mastered the mini, you will be ready to get started on your first full-size sock. 

This class includes:

  • One 2 hour session 
  • Sock Patterns: A wee sock pattern for learning the key skills, and an adult sock pattern to get you started. 

Homework: You will need to have knit up the ribbing and leg of one mini sock in advance of the class so we can delve right in to the fun stuff. that is what the scrap Worsted yarn will be for.   Instructions will be emailed to you upon registration so you can get started on your homework!  Plan to spend about a half hour to an hour of prep time. 

Skills Needed:  At least 102 level skills are required and Students must know how knit in the round on DPNs ( or magic loop ).

Please Bring : 4.00mm DPNs, about 25g of a smooth worsted weight yarn in a light colour. 
You will want to get started right away on your first pair of socks, you might also want to grab some 2.50mm DPNS and grab some sock yarn that speaks to you!
